The baby gorilla is 7 weeks old and she is now fully integrated with the rest of her family.
The baby gorilla which last August was born in public view It is a female and we can see her next to her mother Nalani, his father Mambi, his brother Ebo, his mother, Forwards y fosey, the third female in the family. Until now the group has gone out to their outdoor enclosure separately to ensure the well-being and tranquility of the little calf. Now, upon completion 7 weeks after the birth of the little one and seeing his perfect evolution, he has begun to enjoy the pleasant temperatures of this autumn with the entire group as a whole. For Ebo, who showed great curiosity since his sister was born, are now moments of encouragement and joy.

The technical team prepared an entire special device to facilitate the well-being of the mother and her baby as much as possible. From the beginning the mother has had access to the outdoor areas and thus she has been the one who has freely decided the moments in which she preferred to remain in the conditioned indoor enclosure and when she wanted to take advantage of the hours of sunshine, so beneficial for the calf.

The extreme dedication and care of the mother has made it very difficult to clarify the sex of the baby. Unless necessary, the BIOPARC technical team does not interfere at all in the natural development of parenting and, in this sense, mother and baby have not been separated at any time. For this reason, only observation, a lot of patience and some luck have finally allowed us to contemplate and take a photograph of the little girl's genital area and thus confirm that she is a female.

This breeding group of gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) of one of the species most threatened with extinction, classified as “critically endangered” (“Critically Endangered”) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), has grown in number at BIOPARC Valencia with the birth of 2 gorillas in less than 4 years. The first birth occurred in October 2012 with the arrival of Ebo, the first gorilla born in the Valencian Community. Today this little male, who will soon turn 4 years old, shows us an aspect that points to a hopeful future for his species. Gorillas are normally cared for until the age of 2 or 3 years as babies by their mothers and from then on, they continue to grow with them and the rest of the family until the age of 12 when they can begin to be considered young adults.

In BIOPARC there is also a group of “single males” made up of 3 individuals, an older adult, Jitu (1983) and two young men Thomas (2002) and Kabuli (2004).
