Yesterday Bioparc Valencia celebrated World Wetlands Day with a large number of visitors with a program of recreational-training activities and a bird exhibition next to the Kitum Cave.

During Sunday morning Bioparc Valencia celebrated World Wetlands Day with a series of very varied activities in which all visitors and, above all, the little ones participated by creating their own masks of different animals and thus contributing their part to said celebration.

The activities continued until lunchtime and took place outdoors, both on the central boulevard and in the Kitum Caveas the most representative space of wetlands, in which biologists and educators gave an informative talk explaining the most important characteristics of these habitats. In this place, a handheld bird display where visitors to the park were able to admire different birds while the Bioparc Valencia team of caretakers answered questions from the public, especially from the boys and girls who approached the birds with curiosity.

The wetlands They are areas in which water is the main factor that controls the environment. They are also known as “kidneys of the planet”. This is due to its ability to accumulate and filter surface water, as well as recharge aquifers. However, due to ignorance, lack of foresight and poor planning, many wetlands are threatened or have been degraded.

En Valencia there are six wetlands, of which the Albufera is the largest and best known. Bioparc, from the beginning, took into account the freshwater habitats of the African continent to reproduce them, including in the park different ecosystems typical of African wetlands and continental waters, which showed the biological wealth that its waters contain, and which served as nexus of union between Bioparc and the river and wetland reality of its Valencian environment.
