Three Nile crocodiles have arrived from Denmark, one male and two females, which can now be seen in the Valencian park in its Kitum cave enclosure, which has been recently remodeled to improve their well-being and the visitor's experience.

A few days ago a group of three Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) from Krokodille zoo in Eskilstrup (Denmark). Born between 1962 and 1963, they lived at the Cologne Zoo in Germany and from there, they moved to Denmark where they stayed until their arrival in Valencia.

The male, called Samson, has come with two females known as “the ladies”, so BIOPARC will hold a popular vote to choose their names.

They are a male weighing approximately 250kg and two females weighing around 150kg, known as “Samson and the ladies”, so the Valencian park has taken the initiative to carry out a popular vote to choose the names of the females from among those proposed by the team of his caregivers:

• Taren and Delilah; Taren for Samson's first wife. Delilah for the second woman with whom Samson fell in love.
• Dali and Lila, in reference to Delilah, Samson's wife.
• Zora and Manoah, Zora, Samson's hometown. Manoah, father of Samson.

Until now, there were 2 females living in BIOPARC Valencia (Zenek and Camona) who arrived at the park in 2011 along with a male (Bolek). After the death of the latter, social problems were generated between them, especially due to food and the dominance relationship. Now they have been transferred to Krokodille zoo where they will live with a male and two females.

El Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) suffered a serious decline in the mid-90s due to abusive hunting, leading many populations to their disappearance. This species is one of the three that live in the Nile and we can also see in BIOPARC the little-known dwarf crocodile (Osteolaemus tetraspis).

It lives in many regions of Africa, in all types of waters, continental and coastal. Its incredible dimensions are impressive, since the average size of adults is 5 meters, but individuals have been detected that reach 9 meters. The life expectancy in the wild is 45 years, but in captivity they can live more than 70 years and it is really curious that the sex of the Nile crocodile is determined by the temperature during the incubation period.
