Last Friday, members of the Iberian Association of Wild Animal Caretakers, AICAS, met at Bioparc Valencia where they visited African habitats and highlighted the quality of life of the animals by contemplating scenes such as lion cubs playing in the Savannah. Furthermore, yesterday Sunday on the occasion of the annual “10 Wishes for Hope” campaign, educators and park monitors carried out a series of activities for children between 4 and 12 years old to raise awareness about the danger faced by many species.
Monday, October 21, 2013. This weekend Bioparc Valencia has been meeting scene of the members of AICAS, Iberian Association of Wild Animal Caretakers. An entity that encompasses all those people involved in the care and management of wild fauna, its objective is to ensure the people's wellbeing of wild animals, although without ceasing to pay attention to the domestic ones. They are part of it, workforce of zoological parks, aquariums, wildlife recovery and reintroduction centers, reserves and natural parks. Last Friday, different professionals met in the park and toured the African corners observing animal life up close, many of them highlighted the quality of life of animals when contemplating scenes like the family of lions playing with their few month old cubs. They also attended briefings at the cinema and enjoyed a meal at the restaurant with views of the Savannah.
Yesterday, Sunday, on the occasion of the annual “10 Wishes for Hope” campaign, the day was dedicated to the “African animals of the past”. Under the motto “Let's learn from the past so we don't make mistakes in the future”, educators and monitors carried out a series of activities for children between 4 and 12 years old in order to bring closer the state of many species in nature and raise awareness of one of the worst long-term effects, extinction.
The activity that generated the greatest interest was game “The mirror of the past” where the children have understood in a playful and educational way the relationship waths up among some extinct animals of the past, eg the African mammoth and the elephant. by means of a memory board, they had to unite in pairs the animals of antiquity and the species of our times. This activity has served to show how and why some species such as koala-lemurs and elephant birds disappeared and what are the conservation actions that can be put into practice. Afterwards, the “Your cave painting” craft in which the little ones were able to unleash their artistic gifts.
