In the team of educational display From BIOPARC Valencia we have 4 new animals of a new species. And with it, there are now 19 that are part of the exhibition.
This is the coypu (myocastor coypus), a species that, despite not being native to Africa, is found there invasively. And for this reason and since our exhibition has become a educational reference, we believe it is the best argument to raise awareness among our visitors of the problem of invasive species that exists around the world.

The coipus They are animals native to South America and due to the large number of escapes from farms, they have become one of the 100 most harmful invasive species that exist in the world. And it is, furthermore, one of the top 10 as mammals. They are palmiped animals that are perfectly adapted to the aquatic environment, where they feed on plants. They are part of the rodent family and can weigh up to 10 kg.
The coaching team now has a great job of socialization and desensitization to guarantee perfect acclimatization to your new home. Once this process is finished, the most difficult part begins: introducing them into our educational exhibition. We adapt an exercise that simulates their habits as a species and a script that reaches the visitor explaining that all species, animals and plants, have their own ecosystem, and introducing them into a different one could cause a serious environmental problem.

That is why the exhibition staff, we are very excited with the arrival of these 4 new members (affectionately called GANDALF, SEÑOR PIÑON, PELAILLA, AND CHEWBACA) and at the same time excited about this new challengebeing the first time an invasive species occurs and the problems it entails, with the only goal of expanding our educational message.
