BIOPARC Valencia encourages people to continue voting for the name of their baby chimpanzee.

The animal conservation park wants to share this moving event, which allows us to deepen our knowledge about chimpanzees and the critically endangered western subspecies. The BIOPARC parks in Valencia and Fuengirola are home to the largest group in Spain and, together with the BIOPARC Foundation, play a fundamental role in the international conservation effort to ensure their survival. The development of the little one being raised by the animal care team is very positive, and nearly 2.500 people have already participated in the selection of the three proposed names: Ekon, Eros, and Eusi.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) issued an alert to the international community almost a decade ago with the decision to increase the degree of threat of extinction of the western chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes verus). The preservation of biodiversity requires anticipation of scientific evidence and the BIOPARC Foundation With the parks of Fuengirola and Valencia, they were born as active platforms from which to undertake the global conservation strategy (One Plan Approach). On the one hand, by actively participating in the conservation program that seeks to have a reserve population in European zoos (action ex situ). On the other hand, through the protection of their habitats of origin (projects in situ), benefiting entire ecosystems and the different species they host.

In honor of his mother Eva, all the choices begin with the letter "E."

Special continuing care protocol.

At present, The little one grows up under the care of animal care and veterinary specialists, since it was essential to act to save his life given the mother's difficulties in raising and feeding him. With the goal of him being able to return to his mother and integrate with his peers as soon as possible, from day one BIOPARC activated a complicated continuous care protocol The baby is bottle-fed every three hours. Veterinary care is also intensive to maintain good health and optimal growth. In addition, the primatology staff applies their knowledge to adapt contact and environment to the mother's needs, including preparing the characteristic straw "nests." The baby has already grown to nearly 3 kg, and the amount of milk is gradually increasing.

The group in charge of his care observes with satisfaction the advances in breeding, as monitoring their development is essential. In these first weeks, you can see how they seek greater freedom of movement, also has a stronger grip or tries to stand up. He also shows curiosity about everything around him, and from his shelter, he can see, hear, and smell the other members of his group in the adjacent enclosure. The entire chimpanzee "family" is attentive to the baby, especially little Djibril.
