kenzo and naadhira turn 7 months old - bioparc valence

Thursday, March 6, 2014. "A live documentary” said some of the visitors who have decided to enjoy this spring day at Bioparc Valencia. The scene was no wonder because the puppies Kenzo and Naadhira, male and female, did not stop playing while the entire family: the parents Teimoso and Sortuda and the “sisters” Luana and Tata showed them their affection. All together in a space that recreates the famous cups, enormous granite formations that arise in the African savanna, a place that serves as a watchtower to observe antelopes and giraffes.

This beautiful species belongs to the subspecies Panthera leo bleyenberghi, is the call “Lion of Angola”, which extends across the Southwest of the African continent. They are currently considered as “vulnerable” en the IUCN red list of endangered species (International Union for Conservation of Nature) and, like all large predators, their populations have suffered serious decline. It is estimated that there has been a loss of 30% of the population in the last 20 years.

Its main threat is persecution and killing to avoid conflicts with the human population and livestock, while its habitat is also destroyed and its natural prey disappears.

Despite spreading across 5 large African countries, the Angolan lion only has two protected areas: the Etosha and Okavango Delta national parks. In captivity it is only found in a dozen European zoos, so Its reproduction in Bioparc Valencia is very important.

Bioparc Valencia is celebrating its 6th Anniversary with the €13+€1 promotion, a special price for day admission that is only accessible through collaborating media outlets.
