The COVID-19 crisis meant that the 16th edition of this solidarity event was “virtual” and numerous people were able to follow it through social networks.

Today marks the Breedless dog day, which aims to make visible and value the so-called mixed breed dogs, that is, those that have characteristics of several breeds. This fact is precisely what many people committed to animal welfare highlight and who see in these dogs unique animals that, unfortunately, in many cases are not appreciated and end up being victims of abandonment.

Once again it is worth denouncing that Spain continues to be the European country where the most animals are abandoned. A reality that we must all change and that little by little is mobilizing a part of society that, when it comes to incorporating an animal into its home, decides on one that has previously suffered abandonment. In this sense, on such an important day for dogs, the protective AUPA (Adopt an Abandoned Dog) And BIOPARC Foundation They wanted to share their satisfaction with the great reception that the 16th Parade of abandoned dogs which took place last Wednesday the 20th. A very special edition due to the uniqueness that, for the first time in recent years, it could not be held in the outdoor plaza of BIOPARC Valencia, in the presence of hundreds of people, but rather took place in the facilities of the shelter and was broadcast through social networks Facebook e Instagram.

Adoptions like that of the protagonist of the poster, fosters, sponsorships and many appointments to meet the dogs are the satisfactory result of this initiative, which aims to denounce abandonment and promote the adoption of dogs.

Despite the extraordinary circumstances caused by the COVID-19 crisis, the importance of maintaining this Solidarity event brought together many people, and mixed breed dogs like Elías, the protagonist of the poster, or Chispa, have already been adopted. Now they find themselves in their new home and start a new life where they will give all their loyalty and unconditional love. In addition, numerous people have contacted them interested in different dogs, with the satisfactory result of several fosters and sponsorships; Many appointments have also been made to go to the shelter to meet some of the dogs that paraded or others that better fit their family characteristics. Although, as highlighted in AUPA, many times “love at first sight” arises and such a special connection that emerges between the person and the dog makes them choose each other.

Well-known people of world of culture and sports committed to these causes encouraged participation and it is worth highlighting and thanking Agatha Ruiz de la Prada his generosity in making a beautiful special collection of drawings to announce the parade.

We hope that the next edition, the 17th solidarity parade of abandoned dogs, will be held again in the outdoor plaza of BIOPARC Valencia.
