In educational exhibition involving different species of birds and mammals from the African continent that develop natural behaviors, interacting individuals of the same species or even different species.
The result is a succession of emotional natural scenes, narrated with an educational sense and with a strong conservationist message: a live documentary.
Who makes up the educational exhibition team?
Currently we have the presence of more than 40 animals of 19 species (15 birds and 4 different species of mammals).
All of these animals have been trained under a protocol that is based on positive reinforcement and where the coaches dedicate many hours of work and patience to establish a very close bond that allows them to recreate scenes. Some of them may take months to carry out until the coordination of all the actors involved is achieved.
It is about not only training animals, but also knowing how they are going to be shown and the meaning that each one of them has in the exhibition. For this reason, the order in which they will appear is studied, or which species can participate together... these are details that are taken into account to create a story in which some depend on others, and thus make sense. The result is as if you were really seeing it in the African savanna. In our exhibition you observe the survival techniques of animals just as they happen thousands of kilometers away.
The coaching team
We are a young team with a great enthusiasm that we work every day to offer the best care for each of the animals, and that we are always thinking about how to create new scenes in the exhibition that are surprising and most importantly, educational.
We focus so much on the animals that we forget that the public does not know how we carry out this work and what their curiosities are, which is why We have decided to create this post to make known what this world is like, its curiosities, anecdotes, training and everything related to the exhibition from BIOPARC Valencia.
The amphitheater
The space where the educational exhibition is held is a place that complements the visit to the savanna. With ability to 1000 people It is perfect to show the public what we want to convey and so that they can observe the animals in a controlled manner but without any type of physical barrier, it just happens before your very eyes.
But to do this it has had to be decorated with elements such as logs and rocks but strategically placed to show the most natural side of the species.
A small estuary that crosses is perfect to show off the incredible skill of the osprey, or also see how a ground hornbill It simulates feeding its chicks inside an old log, or how large potamoqueres lift old logs to sniff the ground in search of food. All these elements, together, simply become the best scenario so that the animals do not have to do anything more than what they would do in their natural environment. We coaches try to camouflage ourselves and remain hidden in order to give the greatest prominence to animals and their survival techniques, therefore the vegetation is also meticulously placed to minimize the presence of the coaches.
