On Saturday, February 29, 12 years ago BIOPARC Valencia opened its doors to the public and today thousands of people have come again to the Valencian park to enjoy a special day and share a date so important that, as it is a leap year, it only happens every four years.

From the first hour, numerous families crossed the walkway to begin the trip to this “little piece” of Africa in Valencia. A large representation of tourists, both national and from the most diverse countries and also many Valencians, did not want to miss the special activities that have been scheduled for some of the park's animals. Among the visitors, those from Andalusia who have taken advantage of the festivity in their Community to discover what is considered one of the 10 best parks in the world. The first have been the lionesses where the herd, made up of four females, has shown its wildest side by being surprised by the specially prepared decoration and, following its instinct and sense of smell, they have “torn apart” the enormous gift packages until they reached the tasty meat that was inside. . Next, the meerkats They offered the funniest side and have fascinated the little ones who recognize them in their role as Timon in The Lion King. The Elephants They toured the entire baobab forest in search of the delicacies that their caretakers had carefully prepared and the public was able to admire the skill with which they used their trunks to open the packages.

Finally, the most emotional moment has been seen in the spectacular and unique multispecies enclosure in Spain where two families of primates in danger of extinction coexist, gorillas and mangabeys. Although the first to approach the “birthday party” was the family of mangabeys, they quickly had to share the succulent “cake” and other appetizing “treats” in the form of fruits, vegetables, jellies or biscuits. At that moment the gorillas have taken center stage with the entire family made up of the three babies, Félix, Pepe and Virunga, the little Ebo, the three females Ali, Fossey and Nalany and the male silverback Mambie.
