On the night of the full moon the first zebra of the year is born at BIOPARC Valencia

Popular beliefs link the effect of our white satellite with mammal births and this female zebra has been no exception, as has already happened on other occasions at BIOPARC.

The night of the full moon has brought new life to BIOPARC and it seems that in this case the traditional references to the influence of our satellite on the births of some mammals have been fulfilled. An event that has already occurred other times in the park. The zebra Bom has maintained the habit of being the first of the three females to give birth to a beautiful foal whose sex is unknown at the moment. Both animals are in perfect condition and can now be seen along with the rest of the herd in their outdoor enclosure, where they share habitat with rhinos, ostriches, sacred ibis and marabou.

The Valencian park houses a group of Grant's zebra (Equus burchelli boehmi) that has consolidated itself in the reproduction of this emblematic and threatened African species included in the red list of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature).

The BIOPARC herd is made up of the male Zambé, who arrived in 2012 from the Peaugres Safari (France) and three females who arrived in 2007: Bom and Lucy, from Copenhagen Zoo (Denmark), and the Girl, from Halle Zoo (Germany). Every year all of them give birth, the gestation period of this species is 360-370 days and they only have one calf per birth.

Once again, BIOPARC is a reference as a breeding center for Grant's zebra (Equus burchelli boehmi) and, anticipating the immediacy of the new births, the transfer of the three 2019 foals had already been scheduled for next week.

With adulthood, zebras born the previous year are transferred to other institutions to avoid inbreeding of the species and integrate into other groups. There are already many Valencian zebras that are spread both nationally and internationally. In fact, with the anticipation of new births, last year's three foals will travel next week to the Breeding Farm Snavelof (Holland).

These new births and those received during the baby boom some posters, are a great incentive to enjoy the proposal of leisure “with a cause” of BIOPARC as many times as we want throughout an entire year with the pass B! or BIOPARC annual pass for a very reasonable price. For example, for families or friends, the best option is the Manada Pass with a price from €26,6+1 for children and €35+1 for general tickets.
