The objective of BIOPARC is to raise awareness about the need to preserve the environment from the broadest point of view. In this sense, we participate in the international conservation programs ex situ of species in danger of extinction and, at the same time, the BIOPARC Foundation promotes the so-called campaigns in situ that develops in the animals' habitats of origin. Likewise, it is essential to awaken the feeling of protection for our closest natural heritage and empathy for animals that are essential in maintaining the balance of biodiversity. Despite being linked to our history and being an unmistakable icon, Bats are one of the most interesting and least known animals in the Community.. Our territory is home to 24 species, but myths, legends and bad fame have relegated them to being mistreated to the point that two of the species are in danger of extinction. Bats are suffering an alarming decline and risk of disappearing due to various factors such as habitat loss, the increase in the use of pesticides or the prejudices derived from their lack of knowledge. Less than 1% of bats have rabies, only 3 of the more than 1.200 species worldwide are vampires, they do not attack humans and only bite to defend themselves. They are our allies by feeding on insects and even act as pollinators and seed dispersers.. In addition, they represent an “alarm voice” about the state of the environment, since their greater or lesser presence is an indicator of the health of the ecosystem.
