This week the second baby zebra of the year was born and we can already see him in his herd with his brother who is only two months old.

BIOPARC Valencia has had another joy this week, in this case, with the birth of the second Grant's zebra calf (Equus burchelliboehmi) in the herd of this species that inhabits the park's savanna. His father is Zambé, who arrived from the Peaugres Safari (France) in 2012 and who has demonstrated his reproductive role during all these years. The mother is Lucy, who moved from Copenhagen Zoo (Denmark) in 2007 and who also went into labor at this time a year ago.

The evolution of the zebra baby is being very positive and natural, as is usual for the species, and we can see it following its mother and suckling completely normally. These first days, it is really touching to see how he interacts with the rest of the group, with his brother born last August and how he attracts the attention of the other species with which he shares this spectacular multispecies enclosure: ostriches, marabous, ibis and rhinos.

This new birth continues to position BIOPARC as a genetic reserve of this emblematic African species included in the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) red list as “Near Threatened”. Its geographical distribution in the wild is Zambia west of the Luangwa River, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, northern Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.
