Pepe, the baby gorilla born at BIOPARC Valencia, is 6 months old

The mischievous and playful baby interacts very actively with the entire “family” and especially with his brothers Ebo and Virunga, starring in endearing scenes of wild nature.

Last March in the enclosure of the Fossey gorilla breeding group, the only one of the three females in the BIOPARC Valencia group that had not been a mother, gave birth to her first calf. AND now the little male is 6 months old. The image it offers us is a naughty and playful baby that interacts very actively with all the members of the group but especially with his brothers Ebo and Virunga. A unique image that is a privilege for the people who see it when visiting one of the ten best animal parks in the world and an incentive for the thousands of people who take advantage of its Annual Pass B! (Membership card) to see it grow.

The baby gorillas Virunga and Pepe - BIOPARC Valencia 2018

Pepe, so called because of the proximity of its birth to the Fallas and the festival of San José, is the second male born at BIOPARC Valencia. And it's being a real joy for the whole “family” Because although his mother is constantly watching over him, she allows his older brothers to act as such, producing truly endearing scenes. These days Virunga, who has just turned two years old, imitates the behavior of adult females and wants to be the one who “carries” Pepe. In this situation, Ebo, the older brother who will turn 6 in October, plays his role and places him on his back to walk him. The “aunts” nalani y Forwards they pry and watch and Mambi, the male and imposing silverback controls all the movements and cannot help but join that family moment and, despite his appearance, pamper and show affection towards his offspring.

This nacimiento, like that of his brothers, is a success of the Valencian contribution to the European Conservation Program (EEP) of Gorilla gorilla gorilla one of the species cataloged in “Critically Endangered” by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). And we can say that Valencian reproductive group continues to bear fruit and hope for survival for the gorillas.

BIOPARC will allocate €1 from each entry to the BIOdías “with a cause” initiative, to the protection of great primates through the BIOPARC Foundation.

BIOPARC Valencia is especially committed to gorilla conservation both in the park and actively contributing to its campaigns in situ. In fact this year BIOdays, BIOPARC's “with a cause” initiative, will allocate €1 from each ticket to two great primate conservation projects: the “Ebo Forest Research Project” for gorillas and in collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute, to protect chimpanzees.
