The Spanish company, a pioneer in developing the concept of zooimmersion in Europe with the BIOPARC in Fuengirola and Valencia, also manages the BIODOMO in Granada.
Rain Forest has been the winner of the Tender for the concession and exploitation contract of the Gijón Aquarium for a period of fifteen years with the option of another five years of extension. Located in a prominent space on the city's seafront and conceived as a reference center for both the local public and tourism, it is the only facility of its kind in Asturias.
The proposed Rain forest for this emblematic aquarium opened to the public in 2006, contemplates a General Operation Project where, in addition to the organization of the entire management of the aquarium, notable advances are included such as the biological collection improvement plan and the conservation educational project. It also incorporates the remodeling and improvement of facilities of the access space, the shop, the catering services, the outer dock and the penguin and otter areas. Likewise, the offer presented establishes a annual endowment for social purposes, as well as a plan improvement of working conditions of staff with human resources and training programs.

It will maintain as a strategic policy to dedicate significant resources to improving the visitor experience, education, conservation and integration into society, with the aim of changing people's attitude towards nature conservation.
Following its strategic management policy applied to projects such as BIOPARC Valencia, BIOPARC Fuengirola or BIODOMO in Granada, Rain Forest dedicates a significant portion of resources to ensuring the visitor experience is optimal and, in this sense, is committed to increasing the number of visits over the years of management. It is worth highlighting the commitment to education and conservation as vehicles of commitment to the preservation of biodiversity and the objective of raising awareness of responsible behavior and respect for animal welfare.

Rain Forest will pay an annual fee of 119.000 euros and agrees to maintain ticket rates for 24 months. The contract is expected to come into force at the end of July.
With this award, Rain forest strengthens its position in Spain in the management of environmental leisure centers with the added characteristic that all of them are located “within the city”, which is a way to bring nature closer to people, as well as a boost for the tourism sector.
