Last Wednesday, September 30, we traveled to Madrid together with a copy of gambian rat belonging to our animal collection, specifically one of the new additions to the educational exhibition that we carry out. The reason for that trip was to participate in the first “DNA MAX" presented by Javier Sarda which premiered the following Sunday. (ADN MAX is a new program produced by “7yACCION” for the “DISCOVERY MAX” network. 7y ACCION has successful programs such as “EL HORMIGUERO” or “OTRA MOVIDA”)
We accept the proposal because it is a scientific dissemination program aimed at the general public and because, like BIOPARC Valencia, they believe in education as a tool for the conservation of the planet. It was an opportunity to talk about the extremely important role that these animals play in saving thousands of lives. Furthermore, since it was an animal trained by us for the exhibition, it did not cause any stress or discomfort for the animal. In fact, he traveled with us on the AVE as another passenger.
Our Gambian rat had his role in the section of Pablo Herreros, where they talk about animal behavior. That day, It was about explaining that their species is used in African countries to detect anti-personnel mines.. A very interesting topic that the public is unaware of. And it changed the paradigm of dirty and disease-carrying animals for many of those who were working on the program as well as the viewers.
All the production company staff and ADN MAX's own collaborators such as Pablo Jauregui, Javier López Bowl, Esther paniagua, Martina klein, Marta Marquez and many more, were delighted and surprised to be able to count on that day the presence of our Gambian rat and discover a great animal, and that despite its appearance and its social rejection for being a rat, it was very positive to see how their opinion of these animals changed when they saw it up close and saw their behaviors. We have to thank the entire team for the incredible treatment and professional work they do. They managed to convey to us the excitement and nerves of recording the first program and yet, enjoying it like they did, it was a great experience!
From BIOPARC Valencia we wish the program great success and encourage you to visit us to discover our little African corner in Valencia and count on us whenever it helps to spread and make known the unique role of animal species in the life of the planet, and therefore from all of us.
Signed: BIOPARC Valencia coaching team.
