Mbeli Bai is a forest that has become a sanctuary for gorillas and the valuable biodiversity of the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park in the Republic of the Congo.
La baby gorilla born last july It's called Mbeli by choice of their caretakers in tribute to Mbeli Bai. His parents are the male “silverback” Mambie and the female Ali, parents of Ebo, the first gorilla born in Valencia and who turns 5 this month.

Mbeli Bai is a 13-hectare swamp forest in the Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park in the Republic of the Congo that presents minimal levels of disturbance, thus being one of the last intact forest blocks (without a history of logging) in the Congo Basin and an important stronghold for western gorillas, elephants and other endangered mammals.
BIOPARC is the only animal park in the Valencian Community that houses a reproductive group of gorillas and this calf is the third western coast gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) that was born in the region, the result of European Conservation Program (EEP) of one of the especies classified as “critically endangered” (“Critically Endangered”) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

BIOPARC's "Bai" recreation offers a beautiful picture of the gorilla family, with the silverback Mambie, the females Fossey, Ali and Nalani, the little Ebo and the "babies" Virunga and Mbeli.
The jungle image that can now be seen at BIOPARC Valencia is a “live documentary”, with Mambie, her firstborn Ebo and the females Fossey, Nalani with her calf Virunga and Ali with Mbeli. The behavior of the entire family is a unrepeatable image which draws the attention of visitors who continue to be surprised by the similarity of the behavior of these primates with humans. The park's gorilla habitat has another area where you can see a group of “single males” made up of Jitu, Thomas and Kabuli.

BIOPARC Valencia is especially committed to gorilla conservation both in the park and through the BIOPARC Foundation, which actively contributes to its conservation “in situ” with the EBO project in Africa, to which Funds raised with the +1 of the BIOdías promotion are destined which offers every day from October 7 to 15 a single ticket price of 16+1 euro.
