Through the “BIOdías” promotion, committed to ConservationAt BIOPARC we want to dedicate the collaboration euro of each ticket at the promoted price to the Conservation project that Valencians choose through voting. on line.

A few days ago we launched from BIOPARC Valencia a promotion “with a cause”, BIOdays: 15 days with the entrance to a single price of 15 euros, plus 1 euro dedicated to preserving the environment. With this initiative we would like to involve society in the projects of the BIOPARC Foundation.

On the one hand, with the BIOdays We intend to encourage implication of visitors to the park, with the contribution of 1 € for the preservation of animal species in serious danger of extinction. And furthermore, we wanted to present 3 projects that are already being worked on since Fundación Foundation for you to decide, by public vote on line, to which of them funds raised will be directed.

The three conservation projects in situ that we propose for this action act in the places of origin of some of the species that inhabit BIOPARC:

• EBO Project (Gorillas): The Ebo Forest Research Project aims to study this African forest, protect its inhabitants and, very significantly, a small group of about 25 gorillas that have been isolated and are fighting to survive. The work aims to involve local communities in environmental research and conservation. Ebo is the name of a small and valuable forest in Cameroon where these gorillas live, probably belonging to the Cross River subspecies (Gorilla gorilla diehli) and are at serious risk of extinction in the short term. On the border of Cameroon and Nigeria, only 200 specimens of this subspecies remain, in addition to the isolated population of Ebo, 400 km away.
• AEECL project in Madagascar (lemurs): a project that integrates actions such as the establishment of a research and conservation station in the Ankarafa forest, and a program of development and environmental education of local communities, based on cultivation and reforestation techniques, fire fighting, creation of schools and distribution of drinking water. The AEECL (Association Européenne pour l'Etude et la Conservation des Lémuriens) is a consortium of European zoos and universities established for the conservation and research of endangered species of lemurs in Madagascar. In 2001, UNESCO declared the Sahamalaza area a Biosphere Reserve and, since 2007, a National Park.
• NANDOUMARY CORRIDOR Project, with the Jane Goodall Institute Spain (chimpanzees): tries to create a wildlife corridor for chimpanzees, repopulating with native tree species some areas of the forest that have been burned or have been reduced to crops. The important goal is to connect some of the local populations of western chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) that are becoming isolated from each other. One of the notable initiatives of the project is the creation of a plant nursery to generate trees to replant. Since 2012, the BIOPARC Foundation has actively collaborated in the “Chimpanzee Conservation Program of West Africa, Senegal and Guinea and the sustainable management of agroforestry and tourism resources 2009-2016”, through the Dindéfélo Project of the IJGE, based in Kedougou, Senegal.
